Start with how you want to feel when you're dancing. Fitted and barely there? Loose and covered? Somewhere between the two? All three work. Your outfit doesn't have to look like anyone else's to belong in the room.

Your travel layer and your dance floor outfit have different jobs. Plan both. A hot room, an outdoor stage and a wet walk to the station ask different things of the same clothes.

1. The baby tee and loose trousers

Fitted baby tee + cargos or wide-leg trousers + trainers + small bag.

This is the one to start with when you want an easy outfit you can wear again. The fitted top gives the loose trousers some shape. Pick a waist height you like, then check the hem clears your shoes.

Shoes and accessories that earn their place

Start with shoes you've already worn for hours. Trainers are the easiest option for plenty of outfits; familiar boots work if you like the support and weight. Check the event's footwear policy. A new pair with a good photo is still a new pair, so wear them in before the night.

Platforms change your balance and add weight. If they're part of your look, try stairs and a longer walk first. Heels that already hurt at home won't improve when you're standing in a queue.
